Anna Hunn
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
I am an Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. In my work I attempt to establish a warm, permissive, and compassionate relationship that provides a sense of being understood and helps young person to feel at ease. I believe that everyone has a unique way of perceiving the world and communicating. I carefully consider those differences and use a blend of conversation, the arts and play to help my clients express their innermost experiences that previously might have felt impossible to share.
As children and young people negotiate the developmental challenges and pressures of life, they might come across an obstacle that causes them an emotional distress which is sometimes expressed in behaviour that puzzles those around them. Therapy can become an opportunity to explore such difficulties and find healthier ways to relate to life’s challenges. I believe that it is also a space to enrich a young person’s understanding of themselves and can help to get in touch with their most authentic self which leads to making more fulfilling choices.
Young people often appreciate sharing their difficult experiences with someone who can provide an impartial and confidential space, not connected to their family. This can be especially important to adolescents as they develop their individuality and sense of independence. Some children and young people feel more comfortable to have their parent(s) or caregiver(s) present on their therapeutic journey. This constellation could be especially useful if the work involves strengthening the bonds between them. I am open to accommodating both of those situations, tailoring the sessions to the needs of each individual family. I can also offer sessions just for parents where I create a space for in depth reflection on their parenting experience.
Experience
I have a vast experience in the field of child and adolescent mental health. Alongside private practice, I have worked therapeutically in a wide range of schools as well as the demanding NHS service. Before qualifying as a psychotherapist, I gained experience working with children, young people and families in a variety of caring roles in settings such as a psychiatric hospital, residential mother and baby units and a children’s home.
