Eoghan Styles
EMDR Practitioner and Psychotherapist
I am a psychotherapist accredited by the BACP and an EMDR practitioner registered with EMDR Europe. Originally from Dublin Ireland, I am now working with adults in the UK in private practice. I have experience working with people from all walks of life, who come from very different backgrounds from all around the world. Every person is different, and no two people find the same things work for them. I work in collaboration with each person, finding what is most helpful for them, supporting them in their difficult experiences, and providing hope when things feel hopeless.
I help people to first make sense of their difficult experiences, to place them in the context of their life now, and how their current experience (or symptoms) make sense and are understandable. We are the way we are because of what has happened in the past. With this understanding, we begin to make the changes necessary to experience life differently and with less suffering (symptom reduction).
Stress, anxiety, depression, loss, anger, pain, these are all perfectly human experiences, but they can sometimes get in the way of the life we have always wanted for ourselves. Change is difficult, but not impossible. It’s still possible to free ourselves of the pain, hurt, and trauma that we carry.
It’s still possible to let go of what holds us back and start again. I help people who are struggling with everyday anxiety and stress, and others with trauma, addiction, loss and suicidal thoughts.
I have trained in multiple approaches and tailor how I work to the unique needs of each person. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which can be very helpful with trauma and complex trauma, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT, which is a type of CBT) and mindfulness. My foundational training in psychotherapy was in the person-centred, Rogerian tradition, to which I have integrated other approaches that I have found helpful.
