Lydia Gunjevic
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
I am a fully qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
My therapeutic clinical practice is informed by my Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, and is supported by regular clinical supervision with experienced psychotherapists and continuing professional and personal development. I have a PhD in theology and have previously worked as an associate lecturer and a writer.
I have also recently worked as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in primary and secondary schools in Cambridgeshire and also as a Student Wellbeing Officer and Student Counsellor in higher education.
I have extensive experience of working with children, young people and adults in Cambridge and abroad who are dealing with a range of issues, including ADHD, autism, self-harm, eating disorder, addictions, gender and sexual orientation, trauma, abuse, low self-esteem, bereavement, narcissistic relationships, cultural challenges, anxiety and panic attacks.
I draw on different techniques and theories to develop a therapeutic approach that suits the needs of each client. I use talking therapy as well as suitable arts materials to help my client identify, express and resolve their difficulties and to build greater emotional stability, strength and resilience.
Therapy gives a person the possibility to get to know and understand themselves better as well as their relationships with others. I am convinced that the success of the therapeutic process depends on the client-therapist relationship in a safe, supportive and confidential environment, where the client can express and explore their deepest needs and concerns. My focus is to gain a better understanding of the person’s feelings and thinking and help them to find their own solutions to their concerns and problems.
