Michelle Miller

Counselling Psychologist

I specialise in women’s mental health. Through the ups and downs of relationships, anxiety, depression, sadness, the impact of trauma, struggles with fertility, perinatal anxiety and depression, birth trauma, loss, or when being a mother feels hard, through to menopause, an empty nest, and beyond.

I divide my working week as a psychologist between my private practice and my NHS role in perinatal mental health. I am also a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor (MBACP) and a trained EMDR therapist.

I can provide support for the following concerns to women aged 18 and above:

  • Anxiety, depression or feeling sad.

  • Perinatal anxiety and depression and birth trauma.

  • The transition into motherhood. When it all feels a bit tough.

  • Infertility and fertility struggles.

  • Trauma and complex trauma. Past and present.

  • Menopause. Life transitions, shifting identity, and an empty nest.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL042175), the British Psychological Society (451217) and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of the British Menopause Society and the EMDR Association.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a chartered Counselling Psychologist (HCPC) and a psychotherapeutic counsellor (MBACP).

I have an undergraduate degree majoring in Psychology, and I obtained my Masters, specialising in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, from Cambridge University (Distinction), prior to undertaking a Doctorate in Psychology. My research in self-harm in adolescent females, and further research in perinatal anxiety, ignited my passion in women’s mental health.

I love learning, and I have undertaken further training in Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for trauma, EMDR, and advanced study in trauma. I have completed specialist training in understanding autism, and I am undertaking further training in Fertility Counselling with the British Infertility Counselling Association, and CBT for Menopause. I have keen insight into the impact of trauma and the legacy it leaves behind, from fear and self-blame to shame.

Menopause is an area of sincere interest of mine; with lived experience of the myriad struggles that can accompany this period. I am committed to supporting women who struggle with this transition.
