Associate Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

I am a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor as well as a Developmental Psychologist.  That means I am both a therapist and a psychologist and therefore can draw on both spheres of knowledge to help and support young people.  I work with young children up to the age of 18 and enjoy using the arts but am equally happy and trained to work using more thinking-based approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), or to work with a specific approach that you think might be helpful for you or your child.

I have experience supporting young people with a range of difficulties, particularly anxiety and depression, but also selective mutism, OCD, anger and eating issues.

I have worked in primary and secondary schools, as well as community-based mental health charities, and have a number of years of experience. I am also a qualified and experienced SEN secondary school teacher,

Across all of my work, I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship to heal and the importance of a safe and compassionate therapeutic space to explore our interior worlds.

I am a trainee member of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and a chartered developmental psychologist (as conferred by the BPS - British Psychological Society). I follow the ethics standards and regulations of each professional body.

I work integratively, which means that I draw upon different theories to underpin my work including psychodynamic theory, attachment theory and person-centred theory.

Sometimes it can be challenging to put feelings into words and a creative outlet may help. I use art resources in my work to help my clients express themselves and to explore with them their emotional experiences and their meaning.

Beginning therapy can be a daunting process and so I begin by getting to know my clients and starting to build a trusting relationship together in the therapeutic space.

I work within the ethical guidelines of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).
